Featuring wood-burned creations through the artform of pyrography.

 

Hi, I am Scott French and I am a wood-burner.  Most of what I do is personalized or custom work for people like military plaques,  family coat-of-arms, family crests, name plaques, military plaques, wedding and anniversary plaques, religious themed and anything else that you can imagine to be burned.

 

I have posted a  lot of photos of work that I have done and I hope that this gives you some ideas of what I can do for you. I can help you if you need some ideas and come up with a concept. Prices start at $125 for a 9 1/2" x 12". (Please contact me for an estimate).

Wood-burned family crest commissioned by Ted Griswold. I employed three different elements from three different official family crests that Mr. Griswold provided me. I used the crest/shield and filagree from one, the Greyhound located on the top of another, and the font style from the third. Using a solid tip soldering iron-type tool I would burned by hand the Griswold family crest on a 9" x 12" bass wood plaque.

Personalized Marine Corp Plaque 

9’x12” Basswood plaque

This piece was hand-made using a 9’x11” (approx.) natural basswood plaque with bark edges.

Using a solid tip soldering iron-type tool, I wood-burned an image of a Navy sailor skull & crossbones with Navy hat and then I shaded the surface. I burned in the last name “Lakes” and the name of the ship that he served on. (The skull image was not drawn by me but was obtained on a public domain site with no reference to who drew it or if it was computer generated).

The top and bottom edge burn design pattern are an artistic tribute to some Navy elements such as the helm of a ship and the ammo linkage of Phalanx anti-aircraft munitions. 

When finished, the plaque was sealed in Polycrylic and antique hammered studs were applied to give it the final rustic look.

Immortal Peacock . Wood-burned peacock plume and Hand Embossed Metal. I embossed a border pattern on peacock color metal with a weathered and worn appearance. After I embossed the aluminum I filled the back with wood putty so it protects the artwork from getting dented. The edges and sides are painted with 3 coats of a high quality black nickel metallic paint upon three coats of primer. It is then sealed with 3 coats of poly-crylic. The embossed aluminum is then adhered to the wood and attached with smooth nickel studs.

Approx. 8” x 10” x 3/4" pine plaque

Clear Quartz Crystal point Surrounded by five Aventurine Quarts Crystals, inlaid upon hand embossed copper with patina. Includes bronze studs and liquid metallic copper painted edges. Triple sealed in poly-crylic. Approx. 6.5" x 6.5" x 3/4" on Pine plaque. Preinstalled hanger.

Wood-burned henna design with Amethyst Quartz Crystal cluster and 6 polished amethyst stones. (you can choose crystals or stones of your choice) On basswood with bark and sealed with Poly-Crylic. Approximately 9" x 14"

I wood-burned a business plaque for RDW Automotive on 8" x 10" basswood. I then embossed metal by hand and used Black metallic paint and sealed everything in varnish.

Embossed Emerald color metal with Clear Quartz Crystal inlay.I embossed by hand a tropical pattern and gave it a weathered and worn appearance. After I emboss the aluminum I fill the back with wood putty so it protects the artwork from getting dented. The edges and sides are painted with 3 coats of a high quality black noir metallic paint upon three coats of primer. The embossed aluminum is then epoxied to the wood and attached with leather appearance metal studs. Approx. 6.5" x 9.5"x 3/4" pine plaque

Wood-burned Moon with clear quartz crystals, embossed metal frame by hand, accented with smooth nickel studs. The edges are painted with a liquid gunmetal. Sealed with Poly-crylic. approx. 9 1/2" w by 6 1/2" tall by 3/4" thick.
